Tiera Kennedy Embraces Her Southern Roots Unapologetically in ‘Can’t Help My Country’

Tiera Kennedy’s latest track, “Can’t Help My Country,” is a powerful testament to staying true to your roots. With its soul-stirring lyrics and Kennedy’s honey-soaked vocals, this new single offers listeners a deep dive into the Birmingham, Alabama native’s upbringing. Inspired by her experiences in the South, the track is both a celebration of her heritage and a bold statement of who she is as an artist.

The song, co-written by Kennedy alongside Cameron Bedell and Heather Morgan, paints a vivid picture of Southern life. With a twangy, country guitar riff woven through, Kennedy lists off everything that makes the South the South — the sweet tea, the front porch conversations, and the deep pride in where you’re from. But the song’s power lies in Kennedy’s refusal to hide her roots. “I can’t help my country,” she declares, signaling her steadfast commitment to her identity.

What makes “Can’t Help My Country” truly special is the way it reflects Kennedy’s broad range of musical influences. While rooted in country, the track hints at her love for other genres, blending classic country sounds with modern pop and soul elements. Kennedy admits that there’s been some hesitation in embracing those influences in her music, but this track feels like her unapologetic declaration of self.

“I’ve always had hints of other genres in my music and at times felt apprehensive about that because I felt this pressure to not color too much out of the country music lines,” Kennedy shared in a press statement. “Writing sessions are basically a therapy session, especially when you’re writing with friends. This song was definitely that for me. I just started talking about all my different experiences growing up in Alabama, and we came out with this very honest song that perfectly explains my love for country music.”

The song also serves as the second single off Kennedy’s highly anticipated debut full-length album Rooted, which is set to drop on October 18th. If this track is any indication, the album promises to be an honest, heartfelt exploration of her Southern upbringing and the influences that shaped her artistry.

Kennedy is part of a new wave of artists who are challenging the conventions of country music, weaving in their own stories and pushing the boundaries of the genre. Her ability to blend genres while staying true to the heart of country music is what makes her stand out in a crowded field. As she continues to make waves with her fresh stories and intoxicating vocals, it’s clear that Kennedy’s star is on the rise.

“Can’t Help My Country” is more than just a song — it’s a declaration of authenticity, a love letter to her Southern roots, and a glimpse into the future of country music, where artists like Tiera Kennedy are unapologetically themselves.
