Thomas Rhett and Lanie Gardner Capture the Magic of 'What Could Go Right' in Stunning Duet
Country music thrives on storytelling, and Thomas Rhett is one of the genre’s most captivating narrators. With his latest track, What Could Go Right, he adds a fresh layer of depth and emotion by enlisting rising star Lanie Gardner. The result? A duet that elevates the song’s heartfelt message to new heights.

Co-written by Rhett alongside Rocky Block, John Byron, and Josh Kerr, What Could Go Right explores the excitement, uncertainty, and leap of faith that comes with falling in love. The song was inspired by Rhett’s own relationship with his wife, Lauren, capturing the vulnerability and optimism that define the early stages of romance. While the solo version carried its own charm, the addition of Gardner’s soaring vocals gives the track a new dynamic—one that makes the emotions even more palpable.
“In the back of my mind, I always envisioned What Could Go Right being a feature on the album,” Rhett shares. “When I first heard Lanie’s cover of Dreams, I started listening to her original music and became an instant fan. Her voice is incredible. I immediately wondered what it could sound like on What Could Go Right. So, we reached out, and she came over to my producer’s house that same day and absolutely nailed it.”
Gardner, who gained widespread attention with her viral covers and has since been making waves with her own music, was just as thrilled by the collaboration.
“It’s honestly unreal. I used to blast Thomas Rhett’s songs in my car, singing at the top of my lungs, and now I’m sitting here hearing my voice alongside his on a track,” she says. “TR has been one of those artists I’ve looked up to for so long—his songwriting, the way he brings so much heart into his music, and how he’s shaped country music over the years. Getting to be a part of this song with him has been such a full-circle moment, and I’m beyond grateful he thought of me for it.”
With their harmonies intertwined, Rhett and Gardner breathe new life into lyrics that speak to taking chances in love. The interplay between Rhett’s smooth delivery and Gardner’s soaring vocals creates a push-and-pull dynamic that makes the song even more captivating. It’s a performance that embodies the uncertainty and thrill of taking a leap of faith in love—reminding listeners that sometimes, embracing the unknown leads to something truly magical.
As Gardner’s star continues to rise, "What Could Go Right" serves as both a testament to her undeniable talent and Rhett’s keen ability to elevate his music through collaboration. With this duet, they’ve turned an already beautiful song into an unforgettable moment in country music.
