Scotty McCreery, the North Carolina native with a heart as big as his voice, celebrated a major milestone last week as BMI honored his sixth No. 1 single, “Cab In A Solo.” The festivities unfolded at a lively gathering in the lobby of BMI’s Nashville headquarters on Wednesday, July 31st, where the country star and his team took a well-deserved victory lap.

In a scene straight out of a country music dream, the event was packed with industry glitterati, including McCreery’s co-writers Brent Anderson and Frank Rogers, as well as producer Derek Wells. Emceed by BMI’s MaryAnn Keen, the party exuded the warm, welcoming vibe that country music is known for.

A Toast to “Cab In A Solo”

The evening wasn’t just about celebrating a chart-topping hit; it was a heartfelt tribute to the song's journey. With the support of Studio Bank, Kari Barnhart made a touching donation to the Grand Ole Opry Trust Fund. This fund is a lifeline for those in the country music community who find themselves in need, embodying the spirit of giving back that’s central to the genre’s ethos.

Scotty McCreery, a Grand Ole Opry inductee and now a six-time No. 1 artist, took the stage with his usual blend of charm and humility. Reflecting on his career, he shared his journey from a reality TV star to a respected country music artist. “I didn’t always want to be known as the TV guy,” Scotty admitted. “My goal was always to be a country singer.”

With a twinkle in his eye, he talked about the hard work that goes into making it in country music. “I quickly found, man, you got to dig in there with the trenches, you got to find your team, you got to start writing songs,” he said, humorously adding that he hopes his early songwriting efforts never see the light of day. “I’ve got a label group that is a dream. Y’all are the best thing that’s ever happened to me, getting to work with the Triple Tigers and everybody over there, the promotion staff, top to bottom.”

A Heartfelt Thank You

In his signature down-to-earth style, Scotty expressed his gratitude to everyone who’s been part of his journey. “I get to wake up every day and sing country music before I live, and this is crazy. So, it’s because of all y’all in this room that I get to do this. Thank you, I love you, and I appreciate y’all being here today.”

As the crowd cheered and the music played on, it was clear that “Cab In A Solo” isn’t just a song; it’s a testament to Scotty McCreery’s enduring passion for country music and his commitment to his craft. Here’s to many more milestones and No. 1 hits to come!
