In a move sure to thrill country music fans worldwide, a feature-length biopic chronicling the life and legacy of Randy Travis has been officially announced. Titled Forever and Ever, Amen—a nod to one of Travis’ 23 chart-topping hits—the film promises to take audiences on an intimate journey through the highs and lows of the legendary singer’s career. The announcement was made on March 5 at a special event at the Grand Ole Opry, where country stars and longtime friends of Travis gathered to celebrate the momentous occasion.

A Star-Studded Production Team
Backed by Sacred Arthouse and Tread Lively, the film will be directed by Andrew Hyatt (Paul, Apostle of Christ) from his own script, with veteran producer Eric Groth (Wildcat) at the helm. Country star Clay Walker, a longtime admirer of Travis, will not only executive produce but also step into the role of the icon during his 40s and 50s. Casting directors Anne McCarthy, Kellie Roy, and Morgan Robbins of Engine Casting are currently searching for two additional actors to portray Travis at different stages of his life—one as a young boy (ages 9-12) and another as a young adult (20-30s).
Randy Travis and his wife, Mary Travis, are also closely involved as executive producers, ensuring the film captures the authenticity and emotional depth of Travis’ journey.
“We’ve been approached many times through the years about doing a movie… but the timing or team has never felt quite as good as it feels right now,” Travis said in a statement. “With Clay on our side, and the creative direction he and the producers have, I feel good about telling my story through this medium.”
Honoring a Country Music Icon
Few artists have had an impact on country music as profound as Randy Travis. His arrival in the mid-1980s helped spark the neotraditional movement, paving the way for a new era of country music that dominated the charts in the ’90s. With seven Grammy Awards, 11 ACM Awards, 10 American Music Awards, and five CMA Awards to his name, his influence is undeniable.
The film’s namesake track, Forever and Ever, Amen, became an instant classic upon its 1987 release, earning CMA Awards for both Single and Album of the Year. It was later certified quintuple platinum, cementing its place as one of country music’s most beloved anthems. Despite suffering a debilitating stroke nearly 12 years ago, Travis has continued to leave his mark on the industry, releasing new music with the help of innovative technology.
A Grand Ole Opry Celebration
The Grand Ole Opry served as the perfect backdrop for the film’s official announcement, where some of Travis’ closest friends and admirers gathered to honor his legacy. The evening included performances by country greats such as Collin Raye, Lady A, James Dupré, and Clay Walker. One of the night’s most moving moments came when Dupré, a mentee of Travis, introduced his mentor with an emotional performance of Where That Came From, featuring Travis’ vocals interwoven into the track—a moment that earned a standing ovation.

Walker later took to the stage to perform Travis’ I Told You So before the legend himself and his wife Mary made their way to the spotlight to share the highly anticipated news. The night concluded on a powerful note, as Walker led the audience in a rousing rendition of Forever and Ever, Amen, with Travis offering a heartfelt “amen” at the end—an unforgettable moment that brought the audience to its feet.
Looking Ahead
With production underway, Forever and Ever, Amen promises to be more than just a film—it will be a heartfelt tribute to one of country music’s most revered voices. As Clay
Walker summed up, “Randy Travis is the voice of a generation and one of the greatest country singers of all time. I am truly honored to be a part of this project and cannot believe I get to play one of my heroes.”
For fans of Travis and country music alike, this biopic is shaping up to be a must-watch, capturing the spirit, resilience, and timeless impact of a true legend.
