Taking over as host in January 2006, Brooks didn’t just step into a role—he elevated it. A CMA and ACM National Broadcast Personality Award-winner multiple times over, Brooks transformed American Country Countdown into more than just a rundown of chart-toppers. His interviews with country music’s brightest stars were equal parts candid and compelling, offering listeners an insider’s perspective that only an artist of Brooks’ caliber could provide. From shining a spotlight on rising talents to celebrating the legends, Brooks became a bridge between country’s roots and its future.
"I never dreamed I would be asked to host a legendary international radio show like American Country Countdown,” Brooks shared in a press release. “The fact that I have been supported by hundreds of affiliates and an amazing team of radio professionals for 18 years has made this one of the greatest experiences of my professional life. It’s time to turn my primary focus back to writing, recording, and touring with Brooks & Dunn. It’s been an honor, to say the least, that I was trusted with a microphone that had such an iconic history. Special thanks to all the fans who listened and participated, to ensure that I was being the best that I could be. Keep counting ‘em down!"
According to the press release Brooks’ legacy as a broadcaster is etched in stone, with accolades like the Country Music Association’s National Broadcast Personality of the Year Award (2009, 2011, and 2013) and the Academy of Country Music’s National Personality Award (2021).
But what made Brooks’ tenure truly special was his unique blend of charm and expertise. Whether he was recounting behind-the-scenes tales, championing a breakout artist, or celebrating chart milestones, Brooks brought authenticity and warmth to the mic—qualities that made listeners feel like they were part of a larger country music family.
As Brooks prepares to step away, he does so with the same grace and gratitude that have defined his career. His focus now shifts back to the legendary Brooks & Dunn, where fans can look forward to more music, tours, and unforgettable moments. And while American Country Countdown will continue under new leadership, it’s undeniable that Brooks’ voice will remain a cherished part of the show’s legacy.
So here’s to Kix Brooks: a voice for the songs, a champion for the artists, and a storyteller for the fans. Thanks for the memories, Kix—and for always keeping us counting ‘em down.
