In true Morgan style, “I Know Better” takes familiar themes and flips them with a clever twist. John paints a picture of a man whose Friday nights used to mean hard drinks and speed-limit-shattering drives, only to discover that life has a new thrill, thanks to a certain someone. With an unforgettable hook—“now that I know you, I know better”—Morgan delivers a catchy, playful nod to the transformative power of love.

In a recent conversation with All Country News, John opened up about how the song came together and how excited he is to bring it to fans live while supporting Nate Smith on tour. When asked about the song’s melody, he recalled how the creative energy in the room turned a simple idea into something unexpected.

“Honestly, it was more born in the room,” John shared. “I think Rocky Block was one of the guys in the room, and it was his idea. He threw it out, and we all just went, ‘Man, that’s really cool.’ I’d never heard that twist on that phrase or taken it in that direction. So we ended up chasing it.”

Morgan gave credit where it was due, especially to co-writer Lydia Vaughn. “Honestly, Lydia’s one of the best melody people in town. When you get great writers together, you never know what’s gonna happen. I try not to take too much credit because that melody is just Lydia Vaughn—it’s something that’s kind of different for us, and I knew we didn’t have anything like it on the record.”

Collaboration has been key for Morgan, and he’s found his creative stride alongside a crew of trusted writers. “Rocky brought in the idea, and I can’t remember if he already had it flipped that way or if we manipulated it in the room,” John said. “But I do know that when you get good folks in the same room together, you never know what’s gonna happen. I’ve learned who my crew is—we know each other well enough to be comfortable, not afraid to fail, and go places we probably wouldn’t with others.”

Excited to rehearse the track with his band, John shared his anticipation about fans finally hearing it live. “This one’s got a little something extra to it,” he admitted. “I can’t wait to add it to the set and see how it lands with everyone.”

John Morgan is a rare talent whose every release seems to get better. With an innate knack for blending innovation and authenticity, he’s breaking new ground while giving fans what they crave. The way he’s pushing his own boundaries, he’s got “stadium-ready” written all over him. “I Know Better” isn’t just a song—it’s a bold statement from an artist who knows exactly where he’s going, and he’s taking us along for the ride.
