For Jessie G, music has been a lifelong calling. “At two years old, my parents said I was singing and dancing,” Jessie shares with a nostalgic smile. By the age of four, she was hosting talent shows in her living room, inviting her family with handwritten notes in their mailboxes. Encouraged by her parents, Jessie entered karaoke competitions and local talent shows. These formative years, filled with wins and losses, shaped her resilience and honed her craft.

“There were failures that stuck with me,” she recalls. “But those moments pushed me to prove myself, to work harder, and to make sure my powerful notes were musical, not just loud.” This perseverance carried her through college, where she fought for opportunities to develop her unique country sound amidst classical training. Linfield University responded by creating a program tailored to her needs, setting Jessie on a path to realize her dreams.

A Life-Changing Meeting with Gretchen Wilson

Jessie’s breakthrough came after graduation when she opened for Grammy-winning country star Gretchen Wilson. “She was my role model growing up,” Jessie says. “She was edgy and ballsy, but also a girl’s girl. Meeting her felt like reconnecting with family.” After their show, the two bonded over Jack Daniels and shared stories, sparking a friendship that changed Jessie’s life. Wilson invited Jessie to Nashville to showcase her music, a risk Jessie embraced wholeheartedly. “I packed up my car, drove four days across the country, and never looked back,” she says.

The gamble paid off. Wilson signed Jessie, and the duo spent the next five years touring and crafting Jessie’s upcoming debut album, set for release in 2025. “Gretchen became my mentor and one of my best friends,” Jessie reflects. Today, Wilson is not only Jessie’s close confidante but also the godmother of her child.

The Heartfelt Inspiration Behind “Dress Blues”

One of Jessie’s most personal songs, “Dress Blues,” is a poignant tribute to the military. As a military spouse, Jessie’s journey with her husband, a former Green Beret, deeply influenced the track. “Seeing him in his dress blues uniform, taking it to the dry cleaners, and later experiencing the heartbreak of losing friends who were buried in their dress blues — it all stayed with me,” she shares. One night, inspiration struck. “I woke up in the middle of the night, and the song was fully written in my head,” she says, her voice tinged with emotion. Jessie hopes the song resonates with listeners. “We’ve lost sight of patriotism,” she notes. “This song is my way of honoring the sacrifices made to keep our nation free.”

A National Anthem Moment to Remember

Jessie’s pride in her country was front and center when she performed the national anthem at the Green Bay Packers’ 2024 Thanksgiving Day game. “It was a bucket list moment,” she beamed. Styled in an iconic American flag leather jacket, once worn by Lee Greenwood during his rendition of “God Bless the U.S.A.,” Jessie embraced the occasion with pride and gratitude.

A New Chapter

As Jessie prepares for the release of her debut album in 2025, she also shared an exciting personal milestone. “You’re the first to know,” she reveals. “I’m almost five months pregnant.” Jessie is so excited to show working moms that you can have it all, and that it is important that she show her children the imporantance of following your dreams.

"Why do we give up on those things? Show your kids this is what hard work looks like," Jessie told All Country News. "I'm going to take care of my family and make sure they're all good first, that's the number one priority. And then mama's job comes next. My career is twice as big as it was before, actually three times as big as it was before I had a family because now I got my husband behind me too. I'm not afraid to not take opportunities because I'm like, no, there's not even a question. That's not good for me and my family or that's not good for my career. So it almost makes you more intentional."

With a growing family and a burgeoning career, Jessie G exemplifies the spirit of determination and authenticity that defines country music. Her story, much like her music, is a celebration of passion, patriotism, and perseverance — a journey from small-town dreams to national stages.
