Dolly Parton, the undisputed queen of country music, is bringing her life story to the stage in a way only she can. Dolly: An Original Musical will make its world premiere this summer in Nashville, Tennessee, before heading to Broadway in 2026. The musical, featuring a score of Parton’s biggest hits alongside new songs written specifically for the production, will debut with a four-week limited engagement at Belmont University’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts from July 18 to August 17, 2025.

For Parton, the choice of Nashville as the launchpad for her story was a natural one. “I am Tennessee born and raised, and Nashville has been my musical home for over 60 years,” she shared. “So, this is the right and perfect place to present the world premiere of my life story as a musical. Right here in Nashville, at the beautiful Belmont University’s Fisher Center.”

Directed by Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher, the musical will feature a book

co-written by Parton and Maria S. Schlatter. The production is backed by an impressive team, including producers Danny Nozell, ATG Productions, and Gavin Kalin Productions. Casting details are still under wraps, but excitement is already building for what is sure to be a star-studded debut.

A Landmark Moment for the Fisher Center

The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, located on Belmont University’s campus, has long been a premier venue for world-class performances. Hosting the world premiere of Dolly: An Original Musical marks a historic moment, as it will be the first time the center debuts a major new musical featuring a professional cast and creative team.

With tickets starting at just $40, fans will have the opportunity to witness history in the making. Tickets are now available at www.dollymusical.com or through the Fisher Center Box Office at (615) 460-2255.

Dolly U: A One-of-a-Kind Educational Partnership

Beyond the musical itself, Parton is also launching an innovative educational initiative called Dolly U in collaboration with Belmont University. This immersive program will give students hands-on experience working behind the scenes on the musical’s premiere, from production assistance to marketing and merchandising. The program is designed to offer students invaluable industry experience while earning course credit.

Students participating in Dolly U have already played an integral role in “The Search for Dolly,” a nationwide casting search to find fresh talent for the production. Selected performers will soon travel to New York for final auditions, with casting announcements expected in the coming weeks.

From Music City to Broadway

With a career spanning over six decades, Dolly Parton has solidified her place as a country music icon, humanitarian, and entertainment powerhouse. Bringing her story to the stage in her beloved Nashville before taking it to Broadway feels like a full-circle moment for the legendary singer-songwriter.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to the magic of Dolly, Dolly: An Original Musical promises to be a must-see event celebrating the resilience, charm, and boundless talent of one of country music’s greatest treasures.
