Growing up in the musical juggernaut that is the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas, Tanner had a wide verity of music at his fingertips. With a sharp blend of country forward storytelling and a dash of rocker grunge Tanner is making his own lane and fans can't get enough.
Usrey was the kind of kid who was constantly singing. Singing at home, in the car, at school and at every chance he could get. The Texas native even credits a country icon for teaching him how to sing. "When I was young I would sing along to all of Alan Jackson's songs. The guy pretty much taught me how to sing. I would do it so much sometimes my dad would ask me to stop," Tanner told All Country News. “Then as a senior in high school, I started learning to play guitar, and that’s all she wrote.”
Building on those classic country sounds and adding in his own dash of grit, Tanner's fan base is growing rapidly, and for good cause.
The Prosper, TX native has already released a couple of well received singles in 2023. “Give It Some Time,” and “Take Me Home” have amassed over 12 million Spotify streams in just a matter of months!
Pulling from everyday topic, Usery says that his music has something for everyone, and his latest single "“Last Goodbye” is no exception. Produced by Beau Bedford and co-written by Usrey with top Nashville songwriter Kendell Marvell. Usrey's whiskey soaked vocals gives fans a vivid take on what it feels like when a relationship ultimately comes to an end.
"I woke up one morning and had the opening verse on my mind," Tanner said of the single. "I happened to have a write with Kendell later in the week so it really all came together."
“Right here’s where I’ll make my stand
On a hill, we built with white lies and quicksand
And I don’t want you to go but know you can’t stay
And I hope you know that kills me, babe”
With over 60 million streams worldwide, syncs in Yellowstone, 1M+ monthly listeners, Tanner is also touring with some of the biggest names in the Alt- Country space. Fresh off shows with direct support Charles Wesley Godwin, Usrey has landed himself on just about every major country festival for the rest of 2023!
Lets not forget the sting of shows that Tanner has with fellow Texan Koe Wetzel on the docket amidst a busy summer of headlining spots all across the country, plus a visit to the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN with Shane Smith & the Saints.
Tanner represents what is good and golden in our genre, smart stories that evoke emotion, and no bs attitude and a true thoughtfulness and appreciation of the craft. Needless to say Tanner Usrey is one to watch.
